What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy uses art as the primary mode of expression, alongside talking with an art therapist. It aims to reduce distress and improve social, emotional and mental health by promoting insight, self-compassion and a sense of agency and self-worth. (BAAT, 2024)

At Art Psychotherapy Pathway, we aim to create a private practice that makes art therapy more accessible for individuals from all backgrounds. Offering face-to-face sessions for individuals in the local community and online sessions for people across the UK.

  • Step 5: Art Psychotherapy Assessment

Creating a treatment plan is an essential part of the art therapy assessment process. Therapy aims are developed during the assessment period (around 1 to 6 sessions, depending on the length of treatment). The therapist will work with the client to understand their unique needs and goals.

  • Step 6: Art Psychotherapy Treatment

Treatment sessions include time to create and look at the artwork you’ve created and think about its meaning. This reflection helps you connect your art to your feelings and thoughts, offering insights into your emotions and life experiences. The artwork gives us a starting point for deeper conversations about what’s going on inside.
